What to do while you're home…
Begin a home practice
This could take the form of meditating, a short yoga flow, stretching before bed, drinking tea without scrolling through social media, and on and on. While my home practice tends to be the first thing I do when I wake up, that doesn't have to be what works for you. Think about how you operate, how your energy flows, and what activities bring you home to yourself. Then, try and do one each day around the same time and see how it transforms your mindset.
Try cooking or baking new recipes
My favorites lately:
Support local businesses / Holiday + birthday shop
I recommend:
The Space—buy a class pass to use later.
Dough Mama—grab a gift card so you can meet up with your friends in real life over pie and coffee.
Woodhouse Vegan—they're still doing takeout orders! Grab something for yourself & a roomie.
Two Dollar Radio—they're doing takeout orders Tuesday-Saturday, but you can always support by buying merch and books online (use the code UGH2020 for a discount). What else are you going to read?!
Seventh Son and Wolf's Ridge Brewing—they'll deliver beer to your house. Tip them!
The Ultra Dose—join Nikki's online community The Digital Dose to connect with other yogis and expand what you know about yoga. She's uploading meditations daily.
Milk Mugs NJugs—Grab a boobie mug/planter for yourself or a friend.
Friendly Candle—stock up on candles! They'll keep til the holidays, and we know everyone loves to get a candle. My fave is "winter dreams."
Wild Origins—use the time at home to transition to natural skincare products. Use the body balm for dry hands (which we all have now) or try one of the mud masks.
Listen to Staying Conscious on Spotify and leave a review if you like what you hear :)
Marigold—you can still online shop and update your decor with Jolie's picks!
Read & Watch TV
We're always telling each other we've got a "list" of movies and shows to watch. Now's the time to snuggle up and do it!
I recommend:
The Dragon Prince (Netflix)
Mary and the Witch's Flower (Netflix)
Brooklyn 99 (Hulu)
Seinfeld (Hulu)
The Newsroom (HBO)
The Chef's Line (Netflix)
New Girl (Netflix)
Clean your digital space
You don't always have to be productive, but there's a lot to be said for decluttering your digital spaces. The task alone is daunting to me. I'm not good at saving downloads to folders or clearing the screenshots from my desktop. So, I'm constantly itching for more cleanliness on my screen and wishing I had created folders months ago.
But I've found a solution! For me, even 10 minutes of deleting and cleaning each day makes a huge impact. I like the spend the first or last 10 minutes of my day in one area: my inbox, my downloads folder, my phone's photos, my bank account, etc. And after 10 minutes I'm done for the day. (Empty your trash while you're at it too!) The result is a feeling of accomplishment, and each area is a bit more focused the next time I visit it.
Start a garden
Even if you only have one window to utilize, you can plant a few seeds and watch them grow. It'll make you feel less alone. Try basil as a start! If you have outdoor space or a few extra pots, visit Oakland Nursery for some seeds and plant those!
